Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham
Release Date – 28 Mar 2023
⭐⭐⭐ – 5.4/10
Director – Sam Liu, Christopher Berkeley.
The movie is based on a graphic novel by Mike Mignola and Richard Pace, and it is set in a 1920s version of Gotham City. Batman (voiced by David Giuntoli) returns to his hometown after a decade of exploring the world, only to find it plagued by a mysterious evil that has awakened from the depths of the earth. He must team up with allies like Oliver Queen (voiced by Christopher Gorham), Harvey Dent (voiced by Patrick Fabian), and Dick Grayson (voiced by Jason Marsden) to stop the ancient menace that threatens to destroy Gotham and the world.

The movie is a mix of action, adventure, fantasy, and horror, with influences from H.P. Lovecraft’s stories. It features many familiar characters from the Batman mythos, but with a twist that suits the dark and atmospheric setting. The animation is well-done, capturing the retro style and the Gothic mood of the graphic novel. The voice cast is also impressive, with Giuntoli delivering a convincing performance as Batman.

The movie is not without flaws, however. I feel that the plot is too convoluted and rushed, leaving little room for character development or emotional impact. Some fans have also complained that the movie deviates too much from the source material, changing some key elements and omitting others. The movie also relies heavily on fan service and references to other Batman stories, which may alienate some viewers who are not familiar with them.
Vortex the Dawn of Sovereignty | Ending Explained, movie review
Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham is a movie about a superhero who protects a city. The city looks like it did in the 1920s and it is very interesting. Batman has to use his special powers to protect the city. It is exactly as weird, crazy, and fun as its premise suggests, and if you’re a fan of all things animated Batman or just like weird horror, you should see this. However, if you are looking for a more faithful adaptation of the graphic novel or a more coherent and compelling story, you may be disappointed.
